General Overview of HAAD Exam

Individuals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who want to practice in specific professions are usually required to obtain professional licenses to enable them practice. Healthcare professional are not left out of the need for license. 
If you are in Abu Dhabi and you want to practice as a healthcare provider, you will be required to obtain a license through the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD). Before you can obtain this license, you will need to write the HAAD certification exam.

How to apply and write the HAAD Exam  
The first step to writing the examination is to apply and pay an exam fee. You will also be required to attend a training course before sitting for the test. There are various specialities of examinations that are available to the candidates and the specific one you write is dependent on your profession. Below are the details of the different types of the that an individual can write to obtain their practice license.

Doctors: Doctors in Abu Dhabi are required to obtain certain license from HAAD before they practice. The license is based on whether the practitioner is an intern, specialist, general practitioner, resident doctor, or consultant.

Dentists: Dentists must also obtain practising license and before they do this, they will be required to write ad pass the HAAD exam in their line of career. The test they will be required to write will also depend on whether they are interns, specialists, general dentists, resident dentist, or consultant.
Nurses: This group of medical practitioners are also required to obtain licenses to practice in Abu Dhabi. They have to write the HAAD exam to obtain the licence whether they are applying to be a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse, a mental health nurse, a registered midwife, a paediatric nurse, an assistant nurse, or a community nurse.
Pharmacists: Pharmacists applying to practice in Abu Dhabi will be required to write a different exam on the areas of their specialization. Although, pharmacy specialisation is limited, the HAAD test has classified pharmacists into pharmacy technician, community pharmacist, and clinical pharmacist. Depending on your area of specialisation, you will be required to write the HAAD exam.  
Dieticians: Dieticians are also required to obtain practising license and to do this, they will also be required to write the credential examination. In addition to all the professions that have been mentioned above, other professions that are required to write the HAAD exam before they can practice are highlighted below:  
  • Homeopathy  
  • Physiotherapists  
  • Osteopathic Medicine  
  • Chiropractic Medicine  
  • Naturopathic Medicine  
  • Alternative Medical Practitioners like Unani Medicine and TCM

As established earlier, all healthcare professionals are required to obtain medical license to practice their profession in UAE. These are professionals like doctors, dentists, pharmacists, technicians, and alternative medical practitioners. You don’t have to travel to UAE to write the exam if you are not resident in the country. You can apply for an online examination and an evaluation system in your country of resident. This will reduce the time and cost involved in registering and writing the exam. 

The HAAD test is designed to offer a strong foundation for licensing healthcare professionals in Abu Dhabi through the use of assessment tools that evaluate core competencies needed for each group of professionals. The examination is a very important aspect of obtaining the license. The exam is put in place to ensure that the healthcare professionals working in AUE are competent, skilled, and safe to practice independently in the country.

The HAAD exam comes in both oral and written format. The test is an objective structured clinical examination that is a computer based testing method. It can be taken at any Pearson VUE testing center. The written exam is made up of 100 MC questions with a time frame of 150 minutes. This means that the candidates have about 90 seconds to complete each of the questions. The scoring of the test is based on the country of origin of the professional. In case you don’t pass the exam, you will be required to wait for a period of three months to retake it.

How to register and schedule for the HAAD exam  
The first step is to create an account with Pearson VUE. Before you create an account, you must be sure that you meet the eligibility criteria for your professional specialty for your application to be reviewed and approved. As soon as your application is approved, Pearson VUE will send you an email containing your username and password within 48 hours to enable you schedule your exam date. You can either schedule your test on the online platform and you can also do so through your phone. After scheduling, you will receive your booking confirmation through email within forty eight hours detailing the date and location of your exam. In case you do not receive the booking confirmation within the forty eight hour period, or if the information sent to you is inaccurate, you should contact the Pearson VUE customer care service immediate.
When coming to the testing center, you will need to print and bring along your booking confirmation. Without it, you may not be allowed to write the examination.

Tips for writing the HAAD exam  
When you get to your designated testing center, there are some things you will need to do before you can proceed to write the exam. First, as soon as you arrive, you will need to check in at the reception at the Test Center. At the check-in point, you will need to present two forms of your valid and original identification. Your appointment time and identity will be verified and they will also take a photograph of you. You will be required to sign on an electronic signature pad to complete your verification process. 
The candidates will also receive the candidate rules which contain the terms and conditions that apply to writing the HAAD exam. 
The applicants are expected to go through the terms and conditions and understand everything in detail before writing the test.
