NewsFlash: UNIJOS Inducts 111 Medical Doctors Into The Institution

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has added One Hundred and Eleven (111) newly qualified medical doctors from the University of Jos into its fold.

While administering the oath on the inductees, the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Abdulmumuni Ibrahim represented by the Deputy Registrar in charge of Registration, Dr. Victor Gbenro dwelled on the “Ethics of the Medical Profession” and admonished the young doctors to be well acquainted and abide by the provisions of the profession, stressing that any breach could result in severe sanctions.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Seddi Sebastian Maimako while declaring the ceremony open, disclosed that the first set of Dentistry Students had been admitted into the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Prof. Maimako said the University had undertaken four (4) projects located at the site of the new Medical College at the Lamingo Campus which according to the Vice-Chancellor, would accommodate the Clinical Departments. The Vice-Chancellor added that efforts were being made to ensure the completion of the Medical Microbiology Laboratory and the new 1,200 capacity Multi-purpose Lecture theatre all at the Lamingo Campus.

In an address, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Professor Simon Yiltok advised the inductees to adhere strictly by code of ethics of medical practice as taught to them during their years of tutelage.

The Medical Elder at the occasion, Dr Danlami Lenkop, who is a medical doctor of 33 years experience, spoke on ethics and ideals required of the health care practitioner in a developing society.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of Prof. Chukwu Ihezue prize to the best graduating student in Surgery, Dr. Olaoye Oluwakemi Rosemary.
